Watersportvereniging Leidschendam & omstreken
Watersportvereniging Leidschendam & omstreken is a Dutch watersports club with its own marina, Jachthaven Vlietopper, at the edge of the Vlietland recreational area directly on the Vliet in Leidschendam. The location combines a quiet natural setting with easy access from the Randstad and proximity to Leiden, The Hague and Delft. The site offers more than 300 berths, a modern clubhouse with sanitary facilities, hospitality functions and additional marina services for members and visiting boaters. Club life includes shared volunteer maintenance days, seasonal routines around winter storage and launching, and recurring social activities. Historically, the association was founded in 1978, settled at the current location in 1986, and continued expanding its infrastructure up to the opening of the modern clubhouse in 2005.
History
Watersportvereniging Leidschendam & omstreken was founded in 1978. Since 1986, the club has been based at its current site near the Vlietland recreational area on the Vliet, a landscape that was still partly under development at that time after sand extraction. Thanks to the attractive natural setting and good accessibility by water, the association grew strongly from that period onward. In 1991, the first clubhouse was opened, and later the members decided to build a more modern facility. In 2005, the modern clubhouse was officially opened, and the 25-year anniversary was celebrated with a two-year delay. At the same time, the marina developed into a facility with more than 300 berths, multiple winter storage options, and an established self-help system in which members regularly contribute to maintenance work.
