Cercle de la Voile d'Arcachon
Cercle de la Voile d'Arcachon is a long-established sailing club on the Bassin d'Arcachon, based at Port d'Arcachon in the Centre Nautique Pierre Mallet. The club is presented as a historic allied club of the Yacht Club de France and combines sailing instruction, recreational sailing, regatta activity and programmes for different age groups. The website highlights a clubhouse with meeting facilities, nautical infrastructure on Quai Goslar and a wide range of activities from dinghy sailing to keelboat sailing and traditional local sailing. History
The club traces its origins to the Societe de la Voile d'Arcachon, founded on 16 June 1882, and developed early in close connection with the Yacht Club. Between 1919 and 1939, local sailing life was strongly marked by the 6m and 8m JI classes, with figures such as Philippe de Rothschild and Virginie HĂ©riot. In the post-war decades, key milestones included Jacques Allard's Olympic appearances (1952 and 1960) and Didier Poissant's Snipe European title in 1955. In 1969, the first 24 Heures d'Arcachon was launched and later became the 18 Heures, while 1973 brought new premises and 1977 the Neptune d'Argent award as club of the year. In 1991, CVA moved into the clubhouse on Quai Goslar in the Centre nautique. The title Ecole Francaise de Voile of the year 2019, published in 2020, underlines the club's modern profile as a strong training and regatta centre.
