SSV Segelsparte Schillerslage
The sailing section of Sport- und SchĂĽtzenverein Schillerslage von 1963 e.V. is the only sailing section in Burgdorf and the surrounding area. Its main sailing area is Lake Steinhude with a marina in Mardorf, complemented by family cruises and youth trips on the Baltic Sea. The marina holds numerous sailing boats from Optimist dinghies to family dinghies as well as a motorboat for training and safety; own classes include Optimist, O-Jolle and Flying Cruiser among others. The programme serves members from children to adults and includes a youth section, sailing camp, youth cruise, school sailing clubs in Burgdorf, regular training and courses for the inland and coastal recreational boat licences. Since the sailing section was founded in 2006 it has grown into an active community with flotilla cruises, winter seminars and partnerships.
History
As part of the youth work of Sport- und Schützenverein Schillerslage, the idea of introducing sailing arose in 2006. Strong interest in introductory sessions led to founding a dedicated sailing section, creating a unique offer in Schillerslage and Burgdorf. In July 2006 cooperation began with the Hanover sailing and yacht school on Altwarmbüchen Lake; first training successes followed the same year. In 2007 and 2008 training and youth work expanded, including weekly practice for sailing kids and participation in the local festival parade. In 2009 training cruises with charter yachts started from Heiligenhafen; in 2010 the youth group “Seadragons” was founded, new boats were acquired and the section first entered the Nautic Young Stars regatta in Heiligenhafen. In 2011 followed Optimist building and the naming of “Atreju”, new school sailing clubs, Baltic flotillas and an award for the training concept from the Sparkasse Hannover sports fund. In 2014 the section signed a cooperation agreement with Yacht-Club Niedersachsen (YCN) in Mardorf and held its first sailing camp; family cruises and NYS participation became tradition. In 2015 the first five-day Kidssail camp started; in 2016 the camp continued with about 40 participants, and with 50 participants and seven yachts NYS became the section’s largest event to date. In January 2016 the general meeting introduced section fees, a new leadership structure and further development at Lake Steinhude with the Lower Saxony canoe association. Today the sailing section reports around 70 members (other figures mention about 80), uses marina facilities in Mardorf with numerous boats and offers sailing camp, youth cruise, family cruises and recreational boat licence training.
