Seesport-Verein Meldorf e.V.
Seesport-Verein Meldorf e.V. (SSV Meldorf) is a non-profit water sports club at Meldorf Harbour in the Dithmarschen Speicherkoog on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. The club sits sheltered behind the sea dike on Meldorf Bay and shares the marina with Meldorfer Seglerverein and a fleet of small shrimp fishers. Facilities include a pontoon berth system, a clubhouse overlooking the jetties, a boat hall with winter storage, a harbour crane, slipway, wash area and barrier-free gangway access. Club life combines joint trips and cruises, including Heligoland and Rund Tertius, with shore events such as the summer festival, crab festival, environmental days and mudflat walks. In 2024 the club, founded in 1974, celebrated its 50th anniversary and counts nearly 130 members with sailing boats, motorboats, motorsailers and hobby shrimp cutters.
History
Hobby fishers and other water sports enthusiasts founded Seesportverein Meldorf in spring 1974; according to the statutes on 10 January 1974. The first base was the old Meldorf harbour, where small open boats lay at self-built pontoons and often settled in the mud at low water. Unlike Meldorfer Seglerverein, founded in 1922 and then limited to sailing yachts, the SSV also wanted to unite motorboat owners. With the diking of Meldorf Bay the old harbour closed; in 1978 larger boats temporarily lay in Büsum. In summer 1980 the club moved into the new Meldorf harbour and built a 54-berth pontoon system plus water and power in volunteer work. From August 1984 the clubhouse with toilets and showers was built, then the winter store, extended in 1988. The fleet changed toward sailing boats, motorsailers and larger motorboats. In 1999 the club celebrated 25 years; in 2001 members renewed the main jetty. Siltation remained a lasting problem; a homemade suction dredger failed and the harbour owner later dredged. After Friedrichskoog harbour closed in 2015 many SBC members joined the SSV; supply for the bird warden on Trischen now runs via the club. After tornado damage in 2018, steel outriggers were replaced with aluminium in 2020/2021 (about 80 percent of the system) and clubhouse windows were upgraded. By the 50th anniversary in 2024 further pontoon renewal was planned; the celebration on 20 July 2024 honoured the three remaining founding members. Later projects included dolphin pile renovation, a barrier-free gangway, hall photovoltaics and regular harbour clean-ups. Today the club has nearly 130 members.

Youth section
Under the statutes there is a club youth with youth assembly and youth officer; matters are governed by a youth regulation. Juniors belong to the youth section and may become active or passive members from age 18.
