Segel-Sportclub Schwammenauel e.V.
Segel-Sportclub Schwammenauel e.V. (SSS) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Rur in the northern Eifel, with its harbour at the Schwammenauel dam near Heimbach. The spacious modern pier offers more than 75 berths with electricity and fresh water directly on the jetty; showers are available at the neighbouring Hotel Seehof. The club welcomes ambitious racers, cruising sailors, recreational sailors and families with children; sailing lessons and courses for young members are arranged as needed in cooperation with sailing schools. Founded on 3 January 1970, basin regattas, club events and the exposed location at the widest part of Lake Rur shape club life for around 150 members.
History
Segel-Sportclub Schwammenauel e.V. was founded on 3 January 1970 and has since operated its harbour at the Schwammenauel pier on the northern part of the Lake Rur dam near the hotel and restaurant Der Seehof. As early as 1972, the club gallery documents pier and stair construction as well as low-water situations. In 1996 the underwater structure was replaced. The 2010s focused on water levels, low water and the renewal of anchors and rope guides (November 2016); the basin regatta took place in 2015. The press reported among other things in YACHT 13/2011 on the Catena dinghy cruiser Amadeus at SSS and in visitor reports by Kölner Stadtanzeiger and Kölner Rundschau. From 2021 to 2025, floods and water levels as well as stair surveying, acceptance and stair renovation shaped recent facility development. Today the club has more than 75 modern berths and around 150 members on Lake Rur.
