Segel und Sportboot Club Kitzingen e. V. is a powerboat and sailing sports club on the River Main in Franconia's wine country near Kitzingen, close to Mondseeinsel. The club grounds on Alte Marktbreiter Straße feature a jetty with 28 permanent berths and six guest berths, plus toilets, shower buildings, seating and power connections. The youth section trains on an official course for inflatable-boat slalom and prepares for championships. Founded in 1987 and currently with 134 members, the club uses the Main as its home waters and offers guests drinking water and waste disposal by arrangement.
History
Segel und Sportboot Club Kitzingen e. V. was founded in 1987 and is based in Franconia's wine country on the Main near Kitzingen. The club grounds near Mondseeinsel have long been a meeting place for boaters and young athletes. In the early 2000s the youth section became a successful talent pool in inflatable-boat slalom: the SSC took first places at the Bavarian Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. A highlight in 2006 was hosting the Bavarian youth championships at the SSC in Kitzingen. That year and earlier the club documented youth reports and participation in the European Championship. In 2008 MainPost and Die Kitzinger reported on youth successes, including Philipp Klee's nomination for World and European Championships. Youth leader Wolfgang Klee has supported the juniors for many years. Today the club has 134 members and operates a jetty with permanent and guest berths at Main river kilometre 285.6.
