Segelsportclub Kahl e.V.
Segelsportclub Kahl e.V. is a sailing club founded in 1973 on Lake Freigericht Ost (Kahler See) in the municipality of Kahl, about 25 kilometres southeast of Frankfurt. On the roughly 37-hectare inland water with good water quality, the club offers a clubhouse and berths for around 40 boats. The programme covers dinghy sailing in classes such as Schwertzugvogel, Korsar, 420, ILCA, Europe and Optimist, as well as youth training, regattas and pleasure-craft licence courses. Regular club championships, the Sandhasenregatta and annual offshore cruises shape club life for more than 190 members.
History
Segelsportclub Kahl was founded in 1973 and has grown into a club with more than 190 members, including many children and young people. Core pillars have long been dinghy sailing, racing, youth work and sailing training on Lake Freigericht Ost (Kahler See) in Kahl. The clubhouse with berths for about 40 boats is the heart of club life. SSC sailors have achieved runner-up titles at the Korsar Youth Euros in Berlin and Davos. The Opti week tradition stretches back decades and alternates between venues such as Kahl and Inheiden. In 2023 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a sailing event for guests. Since 2024 the multi-day club championship has been a fixed part of the sporting programme. In parallel, the club maintains offshore cruises and regularly takes part in the Markol Cup on the IJsselmeer.
