Seesportclub Chemnitz
Seesportclub Chemnitz is a sea sports club and the first sport boat school in Chemnitz. The club premises are at Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse 61 in Chemnitz; practical sailing training and examinations also take place at Lake Scharmutzelsee. The club fleet includes the wooden cutters Alter Sachse and Starker August for cruising and regattas, the Varianta Phylax for sailing instruction and member charter, as well as Ixylon dinghies and the motorboat Flotter Otto II. The club offers affordable training for inland motor and coastal sport boat licences, inland sailing and coastal skipper certificates on request, plus SRC and UBI radio certificates and the pyrotechnic distress signal proficiency certificate. Theory courses are held in the evenings at the club building; registration is by email to the training address.
History
Seesportclub Chemnitz presents itself as the first sport boat school in Chemnitz and is registered at the Chemnitz local court under registration number VR 184. The authorised board representative is Dr.-Ing. Rainer Badeke. Pride of the club fleet are the two wooden cutters Alter Sachse and Starker August, used for cruising trips and regattas; Alter Sachse among other events took part in the Rund Ruden regatta in Peenemunde. The fleet also includes the Varianta Phylax, used in spring and early summer for trainee sailing instruction and at other times available for member charter, occasionally also racing. In 2013 the club replaced the previous Flotten Otto with Flotter Otto II and then used the motorboat for motorboat training. Two Ixylon dinghies are also available to the club. The club website additionally features cruise reports, including a 2008 trip aboard the traditional vessel Santa-Barbara-Anna to Kiel Week, and guidance on converting former GDR sport boat licences.
