Seesportclub Bautzen e.V.
Seesportclub Bautzen e.V. is a traditional watersports club at the Bautzen reservoir in the Oehna district, combining sailing with rowing and other multi-discipline events. The club grounds offer berths, a slipway and harbour facilities; sailing and rowing focus mainly on cutters, Ixylon and Optimist. Regular youth training, training camps, state championships and the annual harbour festival with cutter rowing race shape the programme for children, teenagers and adults. Since 1958 and later settling at Lake Bautzen, the club has become an MRV base with an active Marine Youth section and sport boat licence courses.
History
Seesportclub Bautzen e.V. has existed for nearly 60 years and dates back to 1 June 1958. Until 1974 its base was at the Olba in Kleinsaubernitz; afterwards Lake Bautzen became the home harbour of the club, which today has 60 members. The reservoir became one of Upper Lusatia's finest watersports areas for sailing, windsurfing and rowing, and repeatedly hosted major events such as Saxon and German championships in watersport multi-discipline classes Kutter and Ixylon as well as many cup competitions. Watersport here also includes rowing, swimming, knotting, heaving-line throwing and cross-country running. A fixed annual highlight is the inflatable-boat weekend in early May for members, children, youth and interested adults. The club offers training and examination for the sport boat licence on inland and coastal waters. Achievements include Saxon titles in 2000 m cutter rowing and Optimist multi-discipline (2007), runner-up and Saxon champion in the 800 m cutter race (2008), and club ranking place 2 (2016). Since June 2023 children and youth are organised as Marinejugend Bautzen e.V. in the DMB; on 1 June 2023 the club became an MRV base and joined the Marine Regatta Association.
