Surf- und Segel-Club Pulheim e.V.
Surf- und Segel-Club Pulheim e.V. (SSCP) is a watersports club founded in 1981 on the eastern shore of Lake Pulheim west of Cologne. Members may use club-owned sailing boats and windsurf boards free of charge on weekends and public holidays from 1 pm to 7 pm under lake supervision; the site includes a clubhouse, jetty and equipment containers. Sailing classes include Zugvogel, RS500, Laser, Open Skiff and Optimist, with youth training, Optimist courses, club regattas and the Cologne Cup ranking event. The club also offers windsurfing, wingfoiling and pumpfoiling plus DSV-awarded training for inland and coastal pleasure craft licences, SKS theory and radio certificates.
History
Surf- und Segel-Club Pulheim e.V. was founded in 1981 and has been based at Lake Pulheim in the Stöckheimer Hof area ever since. The sail-able water area is currently about 25 hectares; expansion of the lake to more than 40 hectares is expected to be completed in the coming years. Club development includes a hall built in 2016 and a new jetty in March 2018. Later additions were photovoltaic panels on surf and Optimist containers, a split air-conditioning unit in the clubhouse, and an electric trainer boat powered mainly by solar energy and funded by the Marga und Walter Boll Foundation. The German Sailing Federation has repeatedly awarded the SSCP for outstanding training, most recently for the sixth time in a row. Club championships, Cologne Cup, SurfCup and match races sit alongside youth trips, club cruises and offshore sailing such as Veerse Meer or flotilla sailing around Funen. Media attention included a visit by the WDR programme Die Sendung mit der Maus. At the 2025 open day, Mayor Frank Keppeler congratulated the club on its 44th anniversary; the club now presents itself as sailing at Lake Pulheim for 45 years.
