Skanderborg Sejl- & Motorbådsklub
Skanderborg Sejl- & Motorbådsklub is a traditional Danish sailing and motorboat club on Lake Skanderborg in Central Jutland. Founded in 1911, the club today has around 260 active members with sailing and motor boats and is located at Sølystvej 32 in Skanderborg. Members use pontoons at Kalvø, Æbleø and at the club hut on Sct. Croix with grill and kitchen, plus slipway, workshop and club rooms via key fob. From May to October, Wednesday evening club races are held on buoy courses; the season ends with the club championship based on the last five races. Active members with a boat are covered by collective liability insurance; volunteers run the harbour, facilities and events.
History
Skanderborg Sejl- & Motorbådsklub was founded in 1911 and has been based on Lake Skanderborg for over a century. Today around 260 active members sail and motorboat; the club is part of the Gudenå system and requires boat registration with the Gudenå Committee plus SD/SK numbers for the entire waterway. The lake formed in the last ice age nearly 10,000 years ago, covers about 6.32 km² with two large basins (Store Sø and Hylke Sø) and further sections such as Ringkloster Sø, Vrold Sø and Tånning Sø; maximum depth is about 18.8–20 m and mean depth 8 m. The club maintains pontoons at Kalvø and Sct. Croix with grill and other facilities, and pontoons at Æbelø in cooperation with Bådklubben Søtoften. Equipment includes machinery, pressure washer, tools, tractor, a new crane and video surveillance (partly sponsored by Kromann Reumert). Members with a berth or slip rights receive a key fob for slip, workshop and club rooms and access to the hut on Sct. Croix. Racing shapes club life: Wednesdays from May to October (except summer holidays) host club races; the club championship is decided over the last five races. The active keelboat fleet in 2026 includes among others a J/80 and further keelboats. The club communicates by email, SMS and the Facebook page “Skanderborg Sejl- og Motorbådsklub” and expects members to help with yard evenings, spring and winter work and pontoon work to keep fees reasonable.
