Segelsportvereinigung Rhein/Neckar e.V. (SRN) is a multi-generational sailing club based in Mannheim and a hub for sailors from the greater Mannheim, Heidelberg, Worms, Speyer, Bergstrasse and Palatinate area. The focus is on shared cruising on the North and Baltic Seas, Atlantic and Mediterranean, flotillas, and tidal and blue-water sailing, complemented by practical further training such as harbour manoeuvres and spinnaker training. The club offers theoretical and practical training for SBF sea and inland, SKS, SSS as well as radio certificates UBI and SRC, and supports juniors with dedicated youth boats, discounts and leisure trips at Brombachsee. Since 2016 SRN has organised the Rhine-Neckar Sea Sailors Cup; crews also take part in the Kornati Cup and cultivate family and regatta sailing.
History
Enthusiastic sailors founded Segelsportvereinigung Rhein/Neckar e.V. (SRN) in 1987 as a platform for like-minded people in the region to sail together in the Mediterranean, Baltic and North Sea. The club's purpose is to promote sailing through cruising and racing on sea and inland waters as well as training and exchange of experience. Its seat is Mannheim; it is registered at the Mannheim district court under VR 1503, a member of the German Sailing Association (registration BW148) and of the Baden Sports Federation (club number 62394). Over the years SRN grew into a multi-generational club with about 100 members aged six to 80. The programme includes introductory trips such as on the IJsselmeer, one- and two-week trips in the Mediterranean, Baltic and North Sea, and demanding areas such as Brittany and the Cape Verde Islands. Family sailing and sailing across generations are actively encouraged, including on the major summer flotilla with special youth boats. Offshore racing is part of the club profile: one or two crews take part in the Kornati Cup in Croatia each year; the SRN Cup is sailed on the summer trip. Since 2016 SRN has hosted the annual Rhine-Neckar Sea Sailors Cup (RNSC), where clubs and sailing schools from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region compete in multi-day regattas. Reports document among others the 3rd RNSC 2018 on Lake Constance, the 4th RNSC 2019 and the 6th RNSC 2021 on the Baltic, as well as earlier events such as Lake Constance Round 2010 and Fehmarn Round 2008. In parallel the club expanded skipper training: theory mainly in winter in the region, practice on training trips in summer with exams before DSV boards. The current statutes were adopted by the general meeting in Mannheim on 17 July 2021.
