Société Nautique de Nyon
The Société Nautique de Nyon (SNNy) is the official sailing and motorboat club on Quai Louis-Bonnard in Nyon on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman). The club runs a clubhouse with restaurant, manages harbour facilities and operates an active sailing school with summer camps, seasonal courses and competition teams. Besides youth training from age five or seven and elite teams (Optimist, Nacra), SNNy organises about ten regattas a year as well as Tuesday training and the Semaine du Soir. Adults can take Permis D and Permis A courses, leisure sailing with «Ô fil de l'Ô» and CUST-Nyon race coaching. Founded on 28 May 1998 from the merger of CVNy, Hélice and SNN, the club unites sailing and motorboat sections.
History
On 28 May 1998 the Société Nautique de Nyon was created through the merger and dissolution of the Cercle de Voile de Nyon (CVNy), the motorboat group Hélice and the Société Nautique de Nyon (SNN). SNNy took on teaching, developing and practising water sports, organising events and regattas, running the sailing school, representing harbour users before the authorities and managing the clubhouse and restaurant. The society comprises a sailing section (races and training) and a motorboat section (Hélice). Sailing tradition in Nyon goes further back: in 2003 the book «Histoire de la voile à Nyon» marked the double anniversary of 50 years of the Cercle de Voile de Nyon and 25 years since the clubhouse opened. Today the club organises among others the Mardis del Mondo, Semaine du Soir, TF35 Nyon Cup, Les P'tits Pirates and Le Joran and supports juniors through to Olympic Nacra 17 projects.
