The Segel- und Motorbootclub Überlingen e.V. (SMCÜ) is a sailing and motorboat club on Lake Constance based at Überlingen’s eastern sports boat harbour. Founded in 1970, the club today has around 370 members, including more than 60 children and young people. Members use over 100 berths in the municipal eastern harbour and a clubhouse at Strandweg 34 run by the club itself. The offer includes club-owned youth boats, club yachts such as the J/70 SherryLady and the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 30, plus training and racing from Optimist through to the German Sailing Bundesliga. An active youth section with a proven support concept and regular summer and winter training shapes club life.
History
The Segel- und Motorbootclub Überlingen e.V. (SMCÜ) was founded in 1970 and grew on Lake Constance into a strong community of sailors and motorboat enthusiasts. Today the club has around 370 members, more than 60 of them children and young people. Instead of its own harbour, members use over 100 berths in the municipal Überlingen eastern sports boat harbour; the harbour master’s office is at Strandweg 36 a. The clubhouse at Strandweg 34 in the middle of the harbour grounds is run by the club and serves members for meetings and events. For outings and training, the club yacht “4 all”, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 30, and the J/70 “SherryLady” are available; the latter also serves as the Bundesliga team’s training boat. The youth section works with a long-proven training and support concept and achieves success at national and international regattas in classes such as Optimist, ILCA, 29er and other youth boats. Since the German Sailing Bundesliga was introduced in 2013, SMCÜ has fielded its own team and, among other results, finished again among Germany’s top 10 sailing clubs in the 2025 season. In April 2026 the 56th general meeting took place with 113 participants. A former harbour webcam operated for more than 20 years and was taken offline on 18 August 2025.
