Schaumburg-Lippischer Seglerverein e.V.

The Schaumburg-Lippischer Seglerverein e.V. (SLSV) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Steinhude in Wunstorf-Steinhude. The spacious club grounds lie picturesquely in the reed belt near the bathing island and offer a comprehensive club facility with a waterside clubhouse, slipways, modern apartments and a professional club restaurant. Regular training groups for Optimist, ILCA and 420 as well as the youth sailing week held for over forty years shape the youth work and talent development. The club traditionally hosts several regattas each year, including the International Finn Dinghy Regatta for the Schaumburg-Lippisches Nesselblatt and almost annually International German Championships. Founded in 1908, the SLSV is one of Germany's oldest sailing clubs and has been a founding member of the Steinhuder Meer racing association since 1955.

History

In late summer 1908, four sailing enthusiasts with a fleet of just two dinghies founded the Seglerverein Steinhude. In 1914, on the occasion of the clubhouse inauguration, the club was renamed „Fürstlich Schaumburg-Lippischer Seglerverein Steinhude“ in honour of the Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe, who had assumed patronage of the young club. After the Second World War, in 1951 – while the clubhouse was still requisitioned by the British occupation forces – the club received its present name Schaumburg-Lippischer Seglerverein e. V., short SLSV. As early as 1955 the SLSV was a founding member of the Wettfahrtvereinigung Steinhuder Meer and has since been actively involved in organising racing on Lake Steinhude. In 2004 the main clubhouse building was thoroughly modernised; in winter 2010/11 the annex was renovated with a modern seminar and training room and five apartments overlooking the lake. In 2008 the SLSV hosted the traditional Finn Dinghy regatta for the 50th Schaumburg-Lippisches Nesselblatt and made SHD Alexander Fürst zu Schaumburg-Lippe an honorary member. In the same year the club, as one of Germany's oldest sailing clubs, celebrated its centenary with the International German O-Jolle Championship and a large foundation festival. The International Finn Dinghy Regatta for the Schaumburg-Lippisches Nesselblatt already marked its 60th anniversary in 2018. The club's Hall of Fame documents sporting successes from 1932 to the present, including in the classes O-Jolle, ILCA, Finn Dinghy, Flying Dutchman and Star.
