Segelkameradschaft Koblenz e.V. (SKK) is a registered non-profit sailing club with a harbour on the Moselle reservoir in Koblenz-Metternich beside the old ferry lane. The club offers 27 water berths for sailing boats up to seven metres in length as well as its own boat crane, and harbour assembly and dismantling are carried out by the members themselves. The programme includes fitting-out and laying-up sails, model boat sailing in the harbour, a summer festival with lantern cruise, and communal work duties for equipment maintenance. Founded in 1966 by members of the armed forces and later opened to civilian sailors, SKK is a member of national sports and sailing federations and has shaped sailing on the Koblenz Moselle waters for decades.
History
On 3 February 1966 nine members of the armed forces founded the sailing camaraderie on the initiative of Major LG. Hans von Gottberg to give sailing soldiers a club home. On 22 March 1966 the Yacht-Club-Rhein-Mosel (YCRM) admitted the group; the name became Segelkameradschaft Koblenz im Yacht-Club-Rhein-Mosel. On 20 August 1966 the club hosted the German sailing championship of the 20er Jollenkreuzer. At the end of 1966 a damaged 20er Jollenkreuzer was acquired, restored over two years, and served as flagship until sale in 1972, including cruising trips to Holland. From May 1968 a pontoon jetty for ten boats was built; membership then stood at 33 ordinary, 16 youth and 3 family members. On 21 June 1968 a constitution was adopted and the club opened to civilians; in September 1968 a new board was elected and a floating clubhouse on pontoons was self-built. On 12 May 1970 the statutes were adapted for non-profit status, the club joined the Rhineland-Palatinate sports federation, and harbour and flood protection works followed. In 1975 the harbour with 26 berths was completed; the same year brought membership of the Rhineland sailing association and the German Sailing Federation. The tenth anniversary in 1976 was celebrated at the ferry house by the reservoir; youth work, A and BR licences, and cruising and blue-water sailing continued. In 1978/79 a slipway, shore paving and a workboat were added. After the 1980 flood (83 members) a new jetty costing about 70,000 DM was decided; in 1981 the new harbour and club home were inaugurated, and in 1983 a boat crane was installed. In 1984 and 1987 the harbour took its present form with anchors and steel piles. In 1990 caravan and harbour rules were renewed; in 1991 the club celebrated 25 years. In 1993 (66 members) Christmas flood damage to pontoons and crane electrics was repaired. From 2000 jetties and equipment were modernised; in 2004 the club website went online. In 2009 long-serving chairman Karl Werner received honorary membership. In 2010/11 new flotation bodies and the workboat Charly I followed; membership stood at 61. Further upgrades covered caravan, pontoons, outboard and pavilion; in 2016 SKK celebrated its 50th anniversary.
