Skive Sejlklub
Skive Sejlklub is an active sailing club at Skive Harbour on Skive Fjord in Denmark and welcomes sailing enthusiasts of all ages into an open community. The club offers a clubhouse, a junior sailing school with around 30 dinghies and winter boat storage, and opens its facilities to members as well as visitors and guest sailors. The programme includes youth training, cruising with motor and sailing boats, and course and distance racing such as Wednesday racing on the fjord. Founded on 17 September 1933 and affiliated with Dansk Sejlunion, the club combines a long local tradition with broad participation and talent development for young sailors.
History
Skive Sejlklub (SSJ) was founded on 17 September 1933 at Poul Pedersen’s boat yard; at that time 13 boats lay at the pier in Skive Harbour. The club’s history therefore reaches back to the early 1930s and is closely tied to the harbour and Skive Fjord. For the tenth anniversary in 1943, Nørgaard Pedersen wrote about the club; in the same period the kragejolle Snarken served as the association’s school boat for about ten years. Carlo Jansson (Jas) joined in 1934 and remained a member until his death in 2009; he later shared club memories from 1963 and 1993. For the 60th anniversary in 1993, SSJ member Ernst L. W. Møller published “Skive sejlklub gennem 60 år” in 650 copies, excerpts of which appear on the club website. The Optimist class later entered the club; already in the 1940s members bought new boats and raced as if little had changed on the fjord. The narrative stresses active civic engagement by a few long-serving board members and the idea that sailing need not be expensive—seen in debates about Snarken and home-built Optimists and Safirs.
