St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach
The St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach (SGYC) is a family-friendly yacht club on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance in Rorschach. Its home port is the cooperative harbour of Rorschach in the Park der Seeaufschüttung Ost, with its own clubhouse, berths and winter storage organised as cooperatives. Members are mainly cruising sailors, complemented by successful racing sailors; international events such as Opti PM and the Int. Swiss Dragon Championships 2014 and 2022 have been hosted here. Professional youth sailing is delegated to SCR Rietli, while the club develops its own team-sailing and club-regatta concepts. Camaraderie, social life and representation in BSBV, Swiss Sailing and Swiss Sailing Bodensee shape club life.
History
Yacht-Club Staad was founded on 15 August 1942 from the Schweizerischer Bodensee Yachtclub and is the predecessor of today's St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach (SGYC). The history of Yacht-Club Staad (Y.C.St.) and SGYC is documented in pictures compiled by Josef Mazzel in 2017. Today the home port is the cooperative harbour of Rorschach with clubhouse; harbour and winter storage are run as cooperatives. The club hosts international regattas including Opti PM and the International Swiss Dragon Championship in 2014 and 2022. Later years saw events such as the Alpencup 2022 and the Swiss Dragon class championship in Rorschach; crews such as SUI 297 TACHISTON of Norbert Stadler achieved results in national and international Dragon racing. Club life includes yearbooks, social events and a close community on Lake Constance.
