Seglergemeinschaft Thalfingen e.V.

Seglergemeinschaft Thalfingen e.V. (SGT) is a small, family-oriented sailing club on scenic Lake Thalfingen in Thalfingen near Neu-Ulm in Bavaria. Its focus is recreational sailing, regattas and youth training; club boats include four Optimists plus one two-handed and one single-handed dinghy. Every Tuesday from 5 p.m., outside Bavarian school holidays, youth training is led by German Open champion Jörn Thöne, followed by a communal barbecue. The programme features season opening and closing events, spring and autumn Seggerling ranking regattas, and shared trips to Lake Garda and Lake Ammersee. Since its founding around 1975 and its 40th anniversary in 2015, SGT has remained an active club community with partnerships among neighbouring clubs in the region.

History

Seglergemeinschaft Thalfingen e.V. is a family sailing club on Lake Thalfingen. At its anniversary celebration in June 2015 the club marked 40 years, pointing to a founding around 1975. Then first chairman Gerhard Fischer gave the festive address, and the men of the early days as well as founding members were honoured. The Shanty Choir Heidenheim e.V. performed musically; after the buffet dancing continued into the early morning. Today SGT describes itself as a small family club focused on recreational sailing, regattas and youth training. Club life includes Tuesday youth training and a sailors’ meetup with barbecue, weekends on Lake Ammersee, youth camps, a summer festival, a St Nicholas celebration and a photo and film evening at the start of the year. Sailing around Easter on Lake Garda is an annual highlight; Mediterranean as well as North and Baltic Sea trips are possible by arrangement. Many classes sail on the SGT waters, including Optimist, 420, ILCA/Laser, Korsar, Europe, Finn Dinghy, Seggerling, Pirate, OK Dinghy, Teeny and VB Dinghy. Spring and autumn Seggerling ranking regattas attract 20 to 30 boats in good conditions; opening and closing events also welcome guest sailors. The board includes president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, youth officer, race committee lead and a harbour team. Cooperations include SCB Breitenthal, SGS Günzburg, FCAS Dillingen, SCLA Laupheim, MVW Wangen and BWSC Bad Wörishofen.
