SG Scharmützelsee e.V.

SG Scharmützelsee e.V. is a traditional sailing club in Bad Saarow on Lake Scharmützelsee, known as the Märkisches Meer in Brandenburg. The club offers a harbour with slipway, berths and a gantry crane as well as a listed clubhouse on Regattastraße. The focus is on youth work with weekly training and competitive racing in classes such as Optimist, ILCA, 420, Finn Dinghy and H-Boat. The club regularly hosts its own regattas, including the Opti Cup, Finn Regatta and Alte Eichen Regatta, and provides guest berths for visitors. Since the founding of its predecessor structures in 1949 and independence as SGS in 1954, the club has been one of the major sailing clubs in Brandenburg.

Bad Saarow, Deutschland

History

In 1949 active athletes founded SG Bad Saarow-Pieskow. Sailors, motorboaters, paddlers, football and table tennis players trained on today's club grounds. Because the water sports members had little contact with other sections, they became independent in 1954 under the name SG Scharmützelsee (SGS). The founding was an administrative act rather than a members' meeting resolution. As early as 11 March 1921 the Fürstenwalder Segel-Club-Scharmützelsee had been founded in Fürstenwalde; its burgee later served as the model for the SG burgee, adopted by SGS on 3 August 1955. Dendrochronology dates the listed clubhouse to roughly 1777–1780; a pine ceiling beam was felled in winter 1774/75. Today SGS is one of the largest sailing clubs in Brandenburg, hosts numerous regattas on Lake Scharmützelsee and places strong emphasis on youth work and racing within a family-friendly club life.
