Sportgemeinschaft Segeln Potsdam e. V.
Sportgemeinschaft Segeln Potsdam e. V. is a traditional sailing club on the Hermannswerder peninsula in Potsdam and has practised sailing on the Havel since 1950. The club grounds include several jetties, a slipway, four boat halls and a clubhouse with up to 80 seats and a covered terrace overlooking the water. The programme offers youth training from age eight in Optimist and 420er, Wednesday training for sailors, regattas such as the spring regatta, and cruising in the local waters. Guests are assigned to free berths; trial sailing sessions and cooperation with Rosa-Luxemburg-Schule complement the offer for beginners and juniors.
History
The history of Sportgemeinschaft Segeln Potsdam began on 20 March 1950. The meeting of the works sports club “Willi Sänger” took place in the hall of the Oberpostdirektion. On 3 April a second gathering followed; more than 100 supporters of Potsdam sailing were present when the first post-war sailing section in Potsdam was founded. On 27 June 1951 the city council handed the present Tornow site to the sailors. The plot was undeveloped apart from the Havel waterfront. The first major building project was the round storage hall in 1955. In 1960 the large T-jetty and the extended slipway were built. The clubhouse was inaugurated in 1971 after intense weekend volunteer work. In January 1968 “BSG Einheit Segeln” became independent and Sportgemeinschaft Segeln (SGS) was founded. The 1990s were marked by East-West reunification. In 1999 ten years of friendship with Seemannschaft Berlin e. V. were celebrated. In 2006 long-serving chairman Karl-Heinz Hegenbart stepped down after 16 years; since then Jan Fischer has led the board. On 1 May 2025 the club celebrated its 75th anniversary on the Havel with local sailing and tributes from city, sports federation and the Brandenburg sailing association.

Activities
Youth and Wednesday training, spring regatta and further regattas, cruising with logbook, season opening and autumn cruise, work parties and club events in the clubhouse.
Youth section
Active youth section with Tuesday training from mid-April to mid-October (except school holidays), starting in Optimist from about age 8, later moving to the 420er; free trial sailing, DSV-trained coaches and a school AG with Rosa-Luxemburg-Schule.
