Segler-Gemeinschaft der Jollenstation Niendorf/Ostsee e.V.

The Segler-Gemeinschaft der Jollenstation Niendorf/Ostsee e.V. (SGJ) is a beach and dinghy sailing club right at Niendorf harbour on the Baltic Sea in Timmendorfer Strand. The grounds sit on the beach with views of ships and the sea and offer berths for dinghies and catamarans plus short access to the slipway. Club-owned boats such as Optimist, Open Skiff, ILCA, Laser Pico, Laser Vago, 420, Teeny and Laser Bahia enable youth and recreational sailing with coaching or freely. In season there is Saturday coached youth training together with SVNO for ages 7 to 16, plus regular regattas including the Baltic Cup and the traditional Entenjagd. A hallmark is the relaxed beach atmosphere, highlighted by hosting the 2019 International German Championship of the Hobie Cat 16 class.

History

Segler-Gemeinschaft der Jollenstation Niendorf/Ostsee e.V. (SGJ Niendorf) presents itself as a beach and watersports community at Niendorf harbour. A sporting highlight in 2019 was the International German Championship of the Hobie Cat 16 class with teams from Germany and neighbouring countries. In September 2023 SGJ ran its first Contender regatta; with 16 boats and five races the event was considered a success, the class having been brought to the Baltic by racing sailor Ralf. SGJ also hosts Baltic Cup events for 505 and Contender in the Bay of Lübeck and regularly organises formats such as Entenjagd, a youth regatta in Niendorf harbour, and season opening and closing sails. In 2025 a Laser Bahia became club property through a donation and was used intensively by several teams in its first season. Work parties, communal barbecues and an Advent gathering by the club hut traditionally shape the club year. The site serves members and guest berth holders as a dinghy station with seasonal and weekly berths from May to November.
