Seglergemeinschaft Dietringen e.V.

Seglergemeinschaft Dietringen e.V. is an active sailing club on Lake Forggensee in Rieden am Forggensee in the Ostallgäu region. The club has four pier facilities, shore berths, a clubhouse with club room and terrace, winter storage and a slipway. Shore berths host boats such as ILCA, Korsar, 470, Optimist, Flying Dutchman, Tornado, Hobie Cat and Musto Skiff; the piers provide safe berths for cabin yachts and open keelboats. Regular youth training, the annual youth sailing week, the youth cup and the Königswinkel Trophy shape the programme for juniors and racing sailors. Since its founding in 1972, the SGD has grown into a dynamic club with strong youth work and largely self-built facilities integrated into the landscape.

History

In 1972 eleven sailors decided to found Seglergemeinschaft Dietringen to enable racing and inspire young people for sailing. The name Seglergemeinschaft was chosen deliberately and remains the programme after more than fifty years. In 1974 the club joined the German Sailing Federation. In 1978 racing activities required a rescue and race safety boat. The clubhouse was built in 1979; from 1982 to 1984 four wooden piers were erected, followed by a sanitary building in 1987. In 1997 the piers were rebuilt in galvanised steel. In May 1999 Pentecost flooding submerged the piers; the SGD ultimately got off lightly. In 2000 the club was connected to the public power grid via cables through the lake; in 2002 the clubhouse was renovated and remodelled; in 2004 a sewer connection was added via a lifting station with pressure line. In 2005 the shore reinforcement at the piers was rebuilt. In 2008 ice-damaged piers were repaired with new foundations. Drainage works followed in 2010; in 2014 an extension for winter storage and a summer lounge was added and the Bayernkurve was paved. In 2017 the terrace was extended, paths were renovated and a work motorboat was purchased; in 2018 the path to the slipway was paved. In 2020 pier 1 received a new surface; in 2021 the club room was renovated, pier 2 got a new surface, the harbour area was cleared and the slipway received anti-slip protection. Today the SGD presents itself as a dynamic sailing club with very active youth work; Königswinkel Trophy, youth week and youth cup are annual events alongside the club race. Most club facilities were built by members and carefully integrated into the landscape.
