S.E.F. Stamura A.S.D.
S.E.F. Stamura A.S.D. is a historic multi-sport association with a strong sailing section in Ancona at the Mole Vanvitelliana and the Marina Dorica sports centre. Since the 1950s the sailing section has combined member berths with sailing school, regatta organisation and nautical training. The offer includes summer courses for children and juniors on Optimist, ILCA and 420, adult sailing on Sport Boat and courses for the Italian Patente Nautica. Active youth squads, windsurf teams and many regattas such as Trofeo Stecconi and Trofeo Giampieri shape the programme. Club history dates back to 1907; the sailing school later became the Centro Adriatico Addestramento Vela.
History
Società Educazione Fisica Stamura was founded on 26 November 1907 in Ancona when about fifteen young people met in Obadon's barber shop in Via Marsala 8 to form Società Ginnastica Stamura. Sporting activity began in 1908 under president Raffaele Della Pergola and technical director Aristodemo Fraticelli; club colours are white and green. In 1909 a free popular gymnastics school and a cycling section followed; the football team won the first Marche championship. In 1912 the rowing section was created and long remained a pillar; in 1914 rowers earned early honours in Genoa. World War I interrupted competition; on 3 April 1916 a bomb destroyed the Faiani municipal gymnasium. After the war the club rented Scuola Pacini rooms; fencing courses started in 1921, women's gymnastics and boxing in 1923. In 1925 the rowing crew won the Italian title in the eight; athletics became autonomous from 1926. After World War II the society moved to the Teatro delle Muse and revived the Canottieria at the Rivellino of the Mole Vanvitelliana. The sailing section grew through figures such as Lamberto Giampieri, Geremia Viviani and Riccardo Stecconi. Under president Lanfranco Revel the club moved into the eighteenth-century arcades of the Rivellino; the offshore sailing school at the Nautical Institute later became Centro Adriatico Addestramento Vela. In 1967 the President of the Republic awarded the Stella d'oro al Merito Sportivo. Today the sailing section with summer school, adult courses, Patente Nautica, berths and national regatta activity remains a defining part of the multi-sport club.
