History

It all began in the 1950s on the Zwickauer Mulde and later on the club grounds at the Schwanenteich. Historical photographs document club life as early as 1963 and 1967; whether the people in the May 1963 photo were the founding members is not firmly established. After the Peaceful Revolution, in May 1990 six former members of the Society for Sport and Technology founded today's Seesportclub Zwickau e.V. Through active club work, membership rose in recent years to 50. The practised disciplines include rowing, running, swimming as well as knot tying and heaving-line throwing. Over the past decade the club celebrated notable successes: several German team championship titles in the maritime pentathlon and the participation of two club athletes in the European Championships in Seesport in Ukraine, finishing third in the team ranking. Training is held twice weekly; members shape club life through a joint start-of-season sail on 1 May and work parties on the grounds including care of boats and boat equipment. The club only irregularly takes part in various regional and national competitions.
