Sport- und Freizeitverein Steirische Seebären
The Steirische Seebären are a sports and leisure club based in Bruck an der Mur in Styria and serve as a home port for cruising and racing sailors as well as motorboat operators. Members meet at the club venue Zum lustigen Steirer in Oberaich for monthly club evenings, talks and seminars; training on sailing and motor yachts is provided by the club's own instructors. The programme includes theory courses and offshore practice in the Adriatic, skipper crew training, mile-building trips as well as shared holiday cruises and charter deals. Founded in 1997, the club cultivates an open club life for young and old and also supports the Shark 24 project aiming for the 2027 world championship on Lake Huron.
History
The sports and leisure club Steirische Seebären was founded in 1997 and is registered under association number 023714878. Its aim has always been to provide a base for everyone interested in sailing and to promote yacht sport in all its variety without becoming an elitist clique. Club life is shaped by monthly club evenings, solid training on sailing and motor yachts, and the organisation of joint holiday cruises. After the COVID-19 pandemic made joint trips impossible, the traditional season-opening cruise returned to the sailing calendar in 2025: five crews set out from Marina Kaštela at the end of May 2025 for a sailing week in Dalmatia. In 2024, Seebären crews explored the Venice lagoon by houseboat. In 2022, the Seebären conquered the Andaman Sea with a two-week cruise from Phuket. The club currently supports the DESANO goes to Canada project: with a Shark 24, Alfred Felderer aims to compete at the 2027 world championship on Lake Huron.
