Seglerverein Vienenburg e.V.
Seglerverein Vienenburg e.V. is a small sailing club on the northern edge of the Harz mountains, sailing on Lake Vienenburg, a former gravel pit in a park-like recreation area near the centre of Vienenburg (City of Goslar). The club has its own sports lodge on Schachtweg, converted from an old kiosk through volunteer work, plus moorings and training boats for juniors. Free Optimists and a Pirate dinghy, year-round support by the youth officer, and the option to take the DSV junior sailing certificate at the club shape the offer for children and young people; adults sail together and maintain close ties with DLRG OG Goslar. Founded on 21 April 1975 and active on the lake since May 1977, SVVi is known as the “lake with the grandstand” because a raised footpath around the shore lets spectators watch like from a tribune.
History
Seglerverein Vienenburg e.V. was founded on 21 April 1975. Sailing on Lake Vienenburg has taken place since May 1977. The lake, a former gravel pit on the southern slope of the Harly ridge, offers about 700 metres of sailing length, 200 to 300 metres width and roughly 17.5 hectares with a constant water level and steady west/east winds; a surrounding footpath allows viewing as from a grandstand. The club’s own sports lodge was created from an old kiosk through many hours of volunteer work and help from friendly companies. For youth development the club provides Optimists and a Pirate dinghy free of charge; older Optimists are restored by members and kept in use. The youth officer looks after children and juniors year-round; the DSV junior sailing exam can be taken at the club. There is close cooperation with the DLRG (formerly OG Bad Harzburg, merged into OG Goslar in February 2023); regattas and youth training take place only with DLRG supervision. The club is a recognised non-profit (tax office Goslar), a DSV member (N139) and affiliated with the Lower Saxony sports federation and other associations. A chronicle was produced for the 25th anniversary. The catchment area covers the city and district of Goslar, the Harz district and Braunschweig.
