Yacht- und Surfclub Senftenberger See e.V.
The Yacht- und Surfclub Senftenberger See e.V. is a non-profit sailing club on Lake Senftenberg in Großkoschen near Senftenberg. The club grounds lie on the beach of Großkoschen next to the water sports centre and offer water and shore berths, a clubhouse and a slipway. The club fleet includes Optimist, 420 and ILCA boats; privately owned boats include Finn Dinghy, O-Jolle and Ixylon. Children and juniors train on Saturdays and Sundays in season, complemented by annual training camps and many regattas such as the Tradition, Jubilee and Spring regattas. Since the founding of the sailing interest group in 1976 and club registration in 1990, the club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.
History
In September 1976, three years after Lake Senftenberg opened as a recreation area, 15 sailors in the then GDR founded a sailing interest group to give the sport an organised, regatta-oriented form. A long struggle for the harbour grounds followed, including an old army tent and approval to build a clubhouse. The organisation changed from the sailing section of BSG Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg to that of TSG Großkoschen. Several annual regattas, a youth section and fleet growth shaped the development; in 1986 a GDR surfing championship was organised. In spring 1990 the present club was founded and registered; Günter Hopp became first chairman. The club joined the Brandenburg Sailing Association (membership number 66126) and the German Sailing Federation (045). Fixed fixtures since then include Tradition, Jubilee and Lake Cup regattas as well as guest events such as Cup Klasse Sympathie and Stream-Line on the Rock. Youth work with training camp and closing regatta remains central. In 2026 the club looks back on 50 years on the water and celebrates at the club grounds.
