Segelverein Schluchsee e.V.
Segelverein Schluchsee e.V. is the sailing club in the High Black Forest on Lake Schluchsee, Germany's highest sailing venue at around 930 metres above sea level. Sport operations and the clubhouse are at Seglerhof Vorderaha 7 in Schluchsee; the registered office is in Freiburg. The club offers recreational and regatta sailing, courses for beginners and advanced sailors, youth training, piers and berths ashore and afloat. Regular training, Optimist and youth programmes, the Rothaus summer regatta, the RundUm Schluchsee championship and away regattas shape the calendar. The Seglerhof, clubhouse since 1983 and created in 2008 by the merger of Seglerkameradschaft Freiburg and Segelclub Schluchsee, combines clubhouse, hospitality and community in the Black Forest landscape.
History
The Seglerhof, a former Black Forest farmhouse, has been the shared clubhouse of Seglerkameradschaft Freiburg and Segelclub Schluchsee since 1983. In 2008 both clubs merged into today's Segelverein Schluchsee e.V. (SVS). The Seglerhof is a cosy timber house with a tiled-stove lounge, simple guest rooms, a large barn and an outdoor grill area; it also operates as a public restaurant. The sailing area is Lake Schluchsee, a reservoir about seven kilometres long and up to 1.2 kilometres wide in the southern High Black Forest; the water level at around 930 metres above sea level makes it Germany's highest sailing venue. Berths are spread across three shore areas (Kaiser, Auerhahn, Muchenland) and water berths east of the Kaiser grounds, reached via the rigging pier and a feeder pier. Since then the club has run recreational and race sailing, youth development and events such as the Rothaus summer regatta and the RundUm Schluchsee championship on its home waters.
