Segelverein Euroregion Neisse Schönau-Berzdorf e.V.

Segelverein Euroregion Neisse Schönau-Berzdorf e.V. (SESB) runs the Euroregion Neisse sailing base on Lake Berzdorf south of Görlitz. The almost ten-square-kilometre lake was created from a flooded lignite open-cast mine and offers very good sailing conditions with favourable winds. The base provides dry berths for dinghies and catamarans, club and rescue boats, a slipway, sanitary facilities and containers for sailing gear. The programme includes joint sailing, international regattas in the Euroregion, sailing tuition and training for children and young people, as well as club gatherings around the campfire. The base was established in 2012 and has been continued independently since 2025 by the newly founded SESB, in close cooperation with partner clubs in the Czech Republic and Poland.

History

The Euroregion Neisse sailing base on Lake Berzdorf was established in 2012 on the initiative of members of SV Schönau-Berzdorf e.V. (watersports section) in cooperation with Lausitzer Wassersportfreunde e.V. and ISG Hagenwerder e.V. Major infrastructure projects were funded via the Euroregion Neisse from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); support was also received from the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering. Close cooperation developed with sailing club Delfin in Jablonec nad Nisou (Czech Republic) and sailors from KS Turow at the Witka reservoir (Poland). After a successful expansion phase, Segelverein Euroregion Neisse Schönau-Berzdorf e.V. (SESB) was founded in 2025 to continue developments and activities independently. Club life includes joint sailing, club and association regattas, youth work with Optimists and other boats, sailing camps, and events such as the season opening, summer festival with illuminated sailing, and season closing. In 2025 and 2026, infrastructure and grounds were further expanded, including containers, a solar system, permanent buoys and a new SESB information board on the lakeside path.
