Segelgruppe Düsseldorf
Segelgruppe Düsseldorf is the volunteer sailing section of Hochschulsport Düsseldorf e.V. and organises training, coaching and cruises for students, university staff and external participants. At Unterbacher See in Düsseldorf the group keeps its own boats including Polyvalk, Laser and Laser 2000 for try-out sailing, training and independent sailing with a season ticket. The programme covers SBF inland, SBF sea and SKS licences, SRC/UBI radio courses and cruises on the Baltic, North Sea, Mediterranean and in Friesland. A distinctive feature is the non-commercial university sports approach with a Discord community and boat maintenance in its own sail loft.
History
Segelgruppe Düsseldorf is part of Hochschulsport Düsseldorf e.V., which runs the joint sports programme of Heinrich Heine University, Hochschule Düsseldorf, the Robert Schumann School of Music and the Academy of Arts. The group consists of students and former students who organise sailing activities on a voluntary basis and explicitly do not want to be a commercial sailing school. Boats are kept at Unterbacher See and maintained in winter in the sail loft on Ickerswarder Straße. Training includes SBF inland theory plus a one-week practice cruise in Friesland, and the combined SBF sea and SKS course with practice in Düsseldorf and on the IJsselmeer. Regular cruises such as Valkenfrühling, Valkenherbst, FOX summer, Baltic, North Sea and Mediterranean trips shape the club year. From winter semester 2023/24 tiered prices apply for students, staff and externals. Communication runs via mailing list, Facebook group and a Discord server.
