Segelboot Club Krems
Segelboot Club Krems is a sailing club on the Danube near Krems in the Wachau region. The club sits on the right southern bank of the river between river kilometres 1999.3 and 1999.5, slightly downstream of the St. Pölten Bridge; access is via Furth-Palt. The roughly 11,000-square-metre club grounds including the harbour basin offer 50 water berths, a crane with a two-tonne capacity, a slipway, a clubhouse, equipment sheds and generous land storage areas. The sailing area extends about 20 kilometres eastwards across the Danube reservoir to the Altenwörth power plant and includes a varied programme of regattas and leisure activities for beginners and experienced sailors. Highlights include the season opening race, summer regatta, season closing race and the wine harvest regatta with the Willi Schmidl memorial prize in the Yngling class. Founded in 1972, the club combines sailing enthusiasm with the Wachau landscape and the historic town of Krems.
History
Segelboot Club Krems was founded in 1972 and has since been based on the right, southern bank of the Danube near Krems. The grounds lie between river kilometres 1999.3 and 1999.5 slightly downstream of the St. Pölten Bridge; access leads via Furth-Palt past the sports ground, along the Fladnitzbach to the Danube and along the towpath through the bridge. Including the harbour basin, the club area covers about 11,000 square metres. Infrastructure comprises 50 water berths, a crane with a two-tonne capacity, a slipway, a clubhouse, equipment sheds and generous land storage. The sailing area stretches roughly 20 kilometres eastwards across the Danube reservoir to the Altenwörth power plant, with a waterway link into the wider Danube region. The club regularly organises regattas and club events such as the season opening, summer regatta, season closing and the wine harvest regatta with the Willi Schmidl memorial prize, including in the Yngling class. Today Segelboot Club Krems is an active club for sailors of all experience levels on one of Europe's most scenic river stretches in the Wachau.
