History

Segel-Club Knapsack e.V. (SCK) was founded on 3 March 1967 by a group of sailing enthusiasts from the former Knapsack-Grießheim AG and still maintains strong ties to the Knapsack chemical park. Many members remain employees or relatives of the park, yet membership is open to anyone who enjoys sailing. The club grounds lie sheltered from westerly winds directly on Lake Rur on the eastern side of the Eschauel peninsula on a steep shore. Since 2006 the site has had an electricity connection. Below the club building are two jetties with 16 berths each. The club provides club-owned sailing boats for members and supports juniors with Optimists. Activities range from spontaneous midweek sailing afternoons and weekend stays on the Rursee to regatta participation and multi-week cruises. For years the club has run regular sailing courses ending with the official recreational craft licence exam. Impressions from the 2019 sailing training document a practical phase from April through to the exam on 6 July 2019. The SCK club regatta 2022 took place in very light wind. Today the club is an active association on Lake Rur with clubhouse, jetties, a boat fleet and a pathway to the recreational craft licence.
