Segel- und Yachtclub Rhodes-Saarbrücken e.V. (SYR) is a German-French sailing club with its harbour on Étang du Stock (Stockweiher) in Rhodes, Lorraine. The club offers three pontoons with 76 berths, a crane of up to 2.0 t capacity, two slipways and a clubhouse with about 60 seats, kitchen, toilets and showers. Youth work is a priority, with junior sailing certificate courses, advanced courses and the 5 Lakes Cup; regular yardstick regattas and cruising trips also shape the programme. With 438 members, including 60 juniors, and club boats such as Optimists, Lasers, Dyas, Dart and Flying Cruiser, SYR serves as an international sailing and training centre for all ages.
History
Segel- und Yachtclub Rhodes-Saarbrücken e.V. was founded in 1961 by enthusiastic sailors in Rentrisch near St. Ingbert who dreamed of a small harbour and clubhouse. In 1970 they began building the harbour by their own efforts on Étang du Stock in Rhodes (France). The crane was installed in 1982. A wooden chalet not directly at the lake first served as clubhouse. The dream of a clubhouse at the harbour was pursued despite major obstacles, including a regulation that overnight stays on board were only allowed if sanitary facilities existed at the harbour. Today the harbour has sanitary facilities, three pontoons with 76 berths, a crane up to 2.0 t and two slipways. The club sees itself as an international sailing and training centre with a focus on youth work and has 438 members, including 60 juniors. In recent years the club modernised its facilities, including sheet-pile wall repairs, a playground, pétanque court, dinghy pier, parking upgrade and its own weather station. Regular regattas such as spring, summer, dumpling and German-French events as well as the 5 Lakes Cup for Optimist sailors shape sporting life. Cruising, including a club tour around Elba in 2023, is also part of the offer.
