Segelclub Schloss Greifensee
Segelclub Schloss Greifensee (SCSG) is a traditional Swiss sailing club on Lake Greifensee in the canton of Zurich, with a clubhouse right by the water below Greifensee Castle. Members use the club pier and barbecue area, while buoy and dry berths are managed by the municipality of Greifensee. The programme ranges from recreational sailing and J+S junior training to in-house and open regattas such as Rundgreifensee and the autumn regatta. Young sailors from age nine train in club boats of the Optimist, Laser and 420 classes; adults can join the monthly shared sailing sessions. Founded in 1949, the club has grown to more than 200 members and counts regatta successes up to world, European and Swiss championships.
History
Segelclub Schloss Greifensee (SCSG) was founded on 14 May 1949. From five founding members it grew into a community of more than 200. The club welcomes recreational sailors as well as ambitious racers up to world-championship level and is affiliated with the regional and Swiss sailing federations. Youth development is central: during the season there is weekly junior training under Youth+Sport (J+S), with Optimists, Lasers and 420s provided by the club. SCSG organises two annual club regattas on Lake Greifensee (including Rundgreifensee and the autumn regatta), open to sailors from other clubs and to beginners. Members have achieved medal places at world, European and Swiss championships. In September 2023 members repaired the clubhouse roof. On 6 July 2024 the club celebrated its 75th anniversary at Schlosswiese Greifensee with a gathering of Greifensee sailors, a photo meet aiming for 75 boats, and the christening of a new Optimist and a 420. From 2024/2025 cantonal ship cleaning and reporting rules (SRMP) and temporary launching bans shape operations on Greifensee; the club informs members and race teams and supports protecting the lake from invasive organisms.
