History

Segelclub Schwangau e.V. was founded in the mid-1970s; the chronicle begins with the period 1975 to 1990. Dr. Armin Wandel served as first chairman from 1976 to 1982 and began systematic chronicle records immediately after the founding. He was followed by Johann Schneidberger (1982–1987), Dieter Kammerer (1987–1992), Wolfgang Mertens (1992–1993), Wolfgang Krause (1993–2001), Michael Sattler (2001–2011), Konrad Hafner (2012–2013) and Dr. Markus Schiegg (2014–2021); Rudolf Hahn has been first chairman since 2021. Johann Schneidberger is a founding and honorary member. In 2000 Dieter Kammerer summarised the club history in the speech "25 Jahre Segelclub Schwangau". Wolfgang Mertens and Dieter Kammerer continued the chronicle tradition; later Michael Sattler archived excerpts of the written chronicles. The club grounds on the eastern shore of Lake Forggensee with clubhouse, up to 60 shore berths and a buoy field for 19 keelboats became the club's centre. In 2025 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a large lakeside festival; founding member Johann Schneidberger and mayor Stefan Rinke were among the guests of honour. Today SCS maintains active regatta sailing on Lake Forggensee, a strong youth section with youth weeks and training, and a lively club life with Skipperfests and sailors' gatherings.
