Segel-Club Niederrad 04 e.V.

Segel-Club Niederrad 04 e.V. is a traditional water sports club on the Niederrad banks of the River Main in Frankfurt am Main, with sailing on the Main as its main focus. The club offers member-owned dinghies and small cruisers, 15 water berths and a large sun lawn with a pool. Members can take sailing courses, borrow club boats freely, join regular outings and free regatta training; every Wednesday there is a club evening for members and guests. Since the 2022 rename from the former swimming club, sailing has clearly taken centre stage, while the long water sports tradition dating back to the 1904 founding continues.

History

Segel-Club Niederrad 04 e.V. was founded in 1904 as Schwimm-Club Niederrad 04 e.V. and established itself as a water sports club on the Niederrad Main riverside in Frankfurt. For many decades swimming was the focus; in recent years the emphasis has increasingly shifted to sailing on the Main. Since 2022 the club has officially been named Segel-Club Niederrad because sailing clearly leads its activities. The SCN 04 water sports tradition continues, even though there is currently no in-house swimming training and interested people are referred elsewhere when needed. Today the club has member-owned dinghies and small cruisers, including Polyvalk boats, Lasers, Toppers, 420s, 470s and Optimists, plus 15 water berths and a large sun lawn with a pool. Regular club evenings, sailing courses, outings and the traditional Blechdibbe Regatta shape club life. Events such as the 2023 women sailors' camp on the grounds and Blechdibbe regattas with dinghies and keelboats underline the club's role in Frankfurt sailing. About 200 active members and helpers sustain the club; the youth officer post is currently vacant, so children's courses are not offered at present, while training support with club Optimists continues.
