Segelclub Hansa Münster e.V.
Segelclub Hansa Münster e.V. is a traditional sailing club on Lake Aasee in Münster with its own Hansa harbour, clubhouse and boat hall. As an SV NRW sailing performance centre it offers training and racing in Optimist, ILCA, Pirate, Polyvalk and Schwertzugvogel as well as cruising and Bundesliga sailing on the J/70. Juniors and adults benefit from taster events such as AaseeDay, structured courses from youth sailing certificates to SBF, SKS and SSS, and an active regatta and club programme. Since its founding in 1973 the SHM has become one of the defining sailing clubs in Münster and Westphalia.
History
Segelclub Hansa Münster e.V. was founded on 16 January 1973 without its own sailing area; 25 founding members and 60 applications marked the start. On 12 March 1973 it was entered in the Münster register of associations as VR 2048 with initially one club boat. The first club championships took place on 15 September 1973 with hired boats on Lake Möhnesee. On 15 February 1974 the club joined the DSV and the NRW state association with its own examination board and six club boats. With the flooding of the new part of Lake Aasee on 5 August 1975 and the inauguration of Hansa Harbour on 16 August 1975 the home waters were established; the club then owned 31 boats. In 1977 the sail loft was built; in 1979 the clubhouse foundation stone and topping-out followed, and on 26 October 1980 the clubhouse opened with a regatta and harbour concert. Later milestones included the new Tormin Bridge in 1989, clubhouse extensions, about 642 members in 1996, and planning from 2011 culminating in the boat hall inauguration in 2017. In 2022/23 changing rooms, toilets and showers were renovated, and in 2023 harbour facilities were modernised. On 19 August 2023 the SHM celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Mühlenhof; the club then had nearly 800 members and around 70 club-owned boats. In 2024 it qualified for the 2nd German Sailing Bundesliga and the German Junior Sailing League.
