Segel Club Hannover e.V. (SC Han) is a traditional sailing club on the southern shore of Lake Steinhude in Steinhude. Founded in 1925, the family-oriented and sporting club offers moorings with about 25 berths, a club mess with galley, a bathing area and a slipway. The club fleet includes among others a centreboard Zugvogel, Optimists, Open Bics, Laser Bahia and Laser 4.7; members also sail classes such as Flying Dutchman, Tornado, 15er Jollenkreuzer and H-Boot. The programme covers season opening and closing sails, yardstick club regattas, a youth sailing week, cruising and ice sailing; the club is a member of WVStM and DSV. With around 36 active members and the 100th anniversary celebrated in 2025, the club combines long sailing tradition with youth development and camaraderie.
History
Segel Club Hannover e.V. was founded in 1925 by five sailing enthusiasts from Hanover as the fifth sailing club on Lake Steinhude. The first site was in the Alter Winkel in Steinhude at a fisherman's place; the first jetty of wooden planks served only for boarding, and boats were moored to buoys. Two years later the plot at today's Fischerweg 39 (then Gartenstraße) was leased and drained; a jetty with berths and the first weekend huts followed. In 1928 SC Han joined the German Sailing Federation. In 1929 the fleet included among others Weserjolle as well as cruising and racing classes. The club mess was built in 1935 largely by members from demolition materials of the Lütjen Deile. During the Second World War and the post-war years weekend houses sheltered bombed-out families. After sailing was permitted again membership grew; the first post-war boat was an H-dinghy, and a Z-boat followed in 1955. Over the decades classes such as Pirat, 420, 470, Hobie Cat, Tornado, Zugvogel, Laser, Flying Dutchman and O-Jolle were sailed. In 2016 the club hosted boats for the Flying Dutchman World Championship in Steinhude. In 2019 the fixed jetty received non-slip GRP grating. In 2025 the club celebrated its centenary with a festival and a history book. Today about 20 boats lie at the jetty, sailed by around 36 active members.
