Segelclub Edersee e.V.
Segel-Club Edersee e.V. is the largest sailing club on Lake Edersee and has promoted water sports on the Scheid peninsula in Waldeck since 1950. Members use a private crane and slipway, pier and shore berths with power supply, and club boats including 470, Optimist and Laser dinghies. The club hosts numerous class and yardstick regattas each year, including the traditional Blue Ribbon race on Whit Sunday and the National Park Regatta. Alongside racing and recreational sailing, youth development, club festivals and an active community shape club life on the western shore of the Scheid peninsula.
History
The history of Segel-Club Edersee began in the early post-war years with the “Alte Liebe” boatyard of Trebkewitzen Senior and his son Alfred, refugees from East Prussia, who built rowing and paddling boats in an old RAD barracks on the Scheid peninsula. In 1948 the first three sailing canoes with 7.5 m² sail area followed; in 1949 the first race for the Blue Ribbon of Lake Edersee was announced. Segel-Club Edersee e.V. was entered in the Niederwerbe club register by seven sailing enthusiasts; its seat remains the Scheid peninsula, today part of the municipality of Waldeck. By 1960 the club already had more than 60 members. At Whitsun 1963 the first clubhouse was inaugurated. In the early 1970s competitive sailing was high on the agenda; SCE sailors achieved success at world, European and German championships. In 1975 the club celebrated its 25th anniversary and inaugurated the first club pier with 50 berths for members and regatta guests. In 1984 the clubhouse was extended with a youth room, showers and changing rooms, a race office and a tenant flat. In 1994 yardstick races were combined into the Edersee Championship; the same year the clubhouse burned down. In April 1997 the clubhouse was rebuilt with more than 200 members. In 2000 the SCE celebrated its 50th anniversary with many events, including hosting the Hessian Sailors’ Day and a major festival week. Today the club has more than 230 members, looks back on over 75 years of history and remains the organiser of numerous regattas and festivals on Lake Edersee, including the Blue Ribbon.
