Segel- und Tennisclub Rot-Weiss Ingolstadt e.V.
Segel- und Tennisclub Rot-Weiß Ingolstadt e.V. is a family-friendly multi-sport club with an active sailing section on the northern shore of the Ingolstadt barrage lake in the Baggersee recreation area. Facilities include a sailing clubhouse, a modern pontoon mooring and berthing pier, a western pier for regatta guests, a buoy field for smaller dinghies and a slipway. The roughly 75-hectare sailing area suits training, taster sailing and building sailing skills; the sailing section has about 70 members from children to older adults. Regular sailing training, regattas and integrating new members shape the programme. Founded in 1968, the club combines long tradition with a modern harbour on the Danube barrage lake.
History
On 12 January 1968, Segel- und Tennisclub Rot-Weiß Ingolstadt was founded in a side room of Hotel Rappensberger. Sixty-three sailing and tennis enthusiasts, including 29 women, acted as sponsors; from the start it was meant to be a family club. The founding meeting elected Toni Resch as president, Hermann Dietz as vice president, Kurt Scheuerer as secretary and Gertrud Widmann as treasurer; Horst Scheuerer was responsible for sailing. Sailing first took place on the Baggersee quarry lake. On Easter Sunday, 14 April 1968, the sailing section opened club sporting life with a regatta. By August 1968 the club had 212 members and 24 sailing boats. At the end of 1968 the club bought land for tennis courts in what became the recreation area; the site was filled with spoil from the Danube barrage to keep it flood-free. In 1971 the Danube reservoir was flooded and sailing moved from the Baggersee to the barrage lake, with harbour and buoys prepared. In 1972 a hereditary lease with the city followed for the site at the barrage. In 1973 the city and Donau-Wasserkraft AG enabled construction of a sailing sports building at the barrage. In 1990 the crane facility at the reservoir was inaugurated. More recently the pier was renewed and facilities developed further. Today the sailing clubhouse lies between the barrage and the Baggersee; the harbour includes a new pier with berths, short-stay moorings, a western pier for regatta guests and a buoy field.
