Segel-Club-Ribnitz e.V.
Segel-Club-Ribnitz e.V. is a traditional sailing club in Ribnitz-Damgarten, nestled between the Bodden and the Baltic Sea. Founded in 1923, the club welcomes sailing enthusiasts from young beginners to experienced regatta sailors. At the clubhouse on Fritz-Reuter-Strasse, members and guests find berths as well as slip, crane and yard facilities. The youth section with around 25 active sailors trains in Optimist, Cadet, Europe, Pirat and Finn-Dinghy and takes part in regional regattas. Regular club events such as the spring and autumn regattas, fitting-out and laying-up days, plus guest berths, shape the programme and the maritime community on site.
History
On 18 December 1923 Erich Dittmer, Max Falck, Max Scherz, Karl Heinrich Schiebe, Jochen Schneider and Heinrich declared their membership of Segel-Club-Ribnitz. The club was founded on 22 December 1923 on the initiative of merchant Erich Dittmer. Its purpose was to strengthen members and promote physical exercise through sailing, including frequent racing, cruising trips, evening display sails and social events such as the Schipperball. Max Scherz was the first chairman, followed by Dr. Wessel (1924–1927), solicitor Spiegelberg (1927–1936), Ruloff from 1937 and builder Eggert from 1938. By the end of 1924 the club had 24 members. On 28 August 1924 the SCR was registered as a federal association. Small but seaworthy keel cruisers soon enabled voyages far beyond the region. In 1929 a youth section was added, with skippers mentoring juniors in seamanship. In April 1935 membership including juniors stood at 46. Karl Linde of the SCR won the federal cruising championships for the Baltic area from 1927 to 1929 and sailed long voyages through the Baltics in his 75 sqm cruiser; his experiences are recorded in the book “Meine Segelerinnerungen”. In 1928 the club sold postcards designed by Dr. Thron to improve its finances. Today the SCR remains active between Bodden and Baltic, with a clubhouse, youth training, regattas and services for visiting sailors.
