Segel-Club Bonn e.V.
Segel-Club Bonn e.V. is a family-friendly sailing club based on the Rursee reservoir in the Eifel near Simmerath-Rurberg. The club has rented club rooms with kitchen and bathroom within walking distance of the jetty and operates its own floating pier with 48 berths. Club-owned boats such as Varianta, Yngling, Dyas, Pirat and Laser are available to members holding an inland recreational craft licence or A-certificate. The programme includes recreational sailing, sustained youth work with Optimist, Laser and Pirat, racing especially in the Pirat class, and events such as season opening and closing, Rursee in Flammen and sailing trips. Founded in 1973 from a works sports group of the Federal Ministry of Defence, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023 and is a member of the German Sailing Association under DSV register number NW 108.
History
The roots of Segel-Club Bonn go back to 1967, when enthusiastic sailors founded the „Gruppe Segeln Hardtberg“ (GSH) within the works sports community of the Federal Ministry of Defence. The group quickly grew to about 40 members; in autumn the first practical course for the A-certificate began at Segelschule Büchel in Schwammenauel on the Rursee, with theory classes in Bonn. In December 1967 a used wooden Pirat (G 1065) was purchased for 1,600 DM, financed by members’ share certificates, overhauled in around 600 working hours and christened „SIMSALA“ on 23 July 1968. Early berths were hosted by Fahrten-Segel-Club Köln; in 1969 the Eifel-Rur reservoir authority provided two places at a small jetty in the Weidenbach valley. On 4 June 1970 the club was admitted to the German Sailing Association; membership then stood at 112 people with 30 centreboard and 4 keelboats. Berths existed at Paulushof in Rurberg and as guests of Bonner Yacht-Club in Oberwinter. In November 1970 the club magazine „Topplicht“ appeared. In March 1971 Bundeswehr pioneers assembled the jetty on the Rursee in front of Paulushof; with wooden side pontoons the group had 27 berths. The fleet included Optimist, Zugvogel, Fam, Flying Cruiser and Varianta among others. On 12 June 1971 the jetty was moved downstream to its present position because of falling water levels. At a members’ meeting in March 1972 it was decided to found an independent club; on 10 January 1973 „Segel Club Bonn e. V. (SCB)“ was founded at Hotel Kreutz in Duisdorf. In 2023 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary. Today it operates a floating pier with 48 berths on the Rursee, club rooms in Rurberg and club-owned boats, and maintains active youth work and racing, especially in the Pirat class.

Youth section
Continuous, sustainable youth work: children and teenagers are introduced playfully to sailing and encouraged towards racing. Support from adults on the jetty, peer learning. Two Optimists, two Lasers and one Pirat are available for youth sailing.
