Segelclub Wendelsee Thun

Segelclub Wendelsee (SCWe) is an active leisure and sports sailing club on Lake Thun based in Thun. The club premises are in the 1992 boathouse of Ruderclub Thun directly at Lachenhafen and are suitable for regattas, training and social events. The club promotes cruising and regatta sailing across classes, operates the club boat mOcean (gschWIND) for active members and is affiliated with Swiss Sailing and the TBSV. Juniors are included in club life; training takes place through partnerships with neighbouring clubs on Lake Thun and TBSV courses, as SCWe does not run its own junior fleet. Founded in 1975 by 38 sailors in Hilterfingen, the club has grown into a family-oriented sailing community of around 120 members.

History

On 15 May 1975, 38 members founded Segelclub Wendelsee at Hotel Marbach in Hilterfingen. Documents from the founding period include the invitation and minutes of the founding meeting, the list of founding members, the 1975 presidential and regatta-president annual reports and a 1976 boat register. In 1992 the club moved from Hilterfingen to Thun and, together with Ruderclub Thun, occupied the new clubhouse at Lachenhafen, which has since been the centre of club life. The 25th anniversary in 2000 and the 30th anniversary in 2005 were marked by celebrations and press coverage. For the 50th anniversary a short club history was published; today SCWe is a Thun leisure and sports club focused on cruising, grassroots regattas and sociability on Lake Thun.
