Segler-Club Oberspree e.V.
The Segler-Club Oberspree e.V. (SCO) was founded on 24 June 1906 and is now located on the Lower Havel in Berlin-Kladow, opposite Peacock Island. With around 250 sailors, the non-profit club offers a technically well-equipped yacht harbour, a modern clubhouse with terrace and magnificent views of Lake Wannsee. Children from the age of seven start in Optimist groups, while juniors and adults can obtain official boating licences through the club's own training programme. Eight to ten club races per season, the Havelrund yardstick regatta and guest berths at the steamer pier shape active club life on one of Germany's most beautiful watersports areas.
History
The Segler-Club Oberspree e.V. (SCO) was founded on 24 June 1906 at the restaurant "Zu den drei Linden" in Grünau. In 1912 the club leased Großer Rohrwall island on the Dahme and became a founding member of the German Sailing Federation, which later merged into the German Sailing Association; Robert Höfer served as federal chairman there for ten years. After the war, Großer Rohrwall passed to the GDR, prompting members living in West Berlin to re-establish the Segler-Club Oberspree e.V. in West Berlin in 1954. In 1966 a plot in Berlin-Kladow could be leased and equipped with a clubhouse built by members' own efforts a few years later. Additional land was leased and later purchased; the club now has a 4,000 sqm site on the Lower Havel opposite Peacock Island at km 13. The clubhouse was completely rebuilt from 2015 to 2019: the original building application was filed on 15 December 2015, building permission on 15 February 2016, construction began on 1 October 2017, the cornerstone was laid on 16 February 2018, the topping-out ceremony on 29 June 2018 and the inauguration on 3 March 2019. The SCO is a member of the Berlin Sailing Association within the German Sailing Association and is registered as a non-profit association at the Charlottenburg district court (VR 2055 NZ).
