Segler-Club Nord-West 1908 e.V. is a small sailing club with currently 27 members on the Brandenburg Niederhavel near Havel kilometre 59 in Brandenburg an der Havel. The club grounds lie close to the city centre and are also easy to reach from federal roads B1/B102; the nearest lakes are Beetzsee and Breitlingsee. On site there are jetties, a boat hall and a clubroom; guests have access to a kitchen facility, shower and toilet, and boats can be slipped. Club life includes fitting-out and laying-up days, summer festivals, joint trips on Breitlingsee and participation in regattas such as the Doppellochregatta and the planned long-distance regatta. Founded in 1908, the club celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2018 and continues to foster a close-knit community with events such as autumn clean-up, the annual general meeting and a Christmas party.
History
Segler-Club Nord-West 1908 e.V. dates back to its founding year 1908 and is thus one of the long-established sailing clubs in Brandenburg an der Havel. The grounds lie on the Brandenburg Niederhavel near Havel kilometre 59; from there sailors reach the regional lakes including Beetzsee, Breitlingsee and Plauer See via the Havel, though most boats must lower their masts because of several bridges. The 2017 chronicle documents typical season routines: spring clean-up and annual meeting on 25 March with jetty preparation and admission of a new member, launching on 22 April despite strong wind, fitting-out on 29 April, attendance at the reopening of the neighbouring Marina Niederhavel on 1 May, and a summer festival with a trip on Breitlingsee on 15 July. On 5 August 2017 two club boats competed in the 23rd Doppellochregatta and finished second and third; two jury boats also came from the club. Laying-up took place on 23 September 2017 on Breitlingsee. On 19 May 2018 the club celebrated its 110th anniversary with about 50 registered guests. Members organised the festival themselves, cleared trailers from the small boat hall, decorated the hall and prepared buffet, a show with dance group and sea shanties, and a cold evening buffet. In later years the club continued summer festivals, fitting-out days and communal trips, as documented in photo galleries for summer festivals 2016, 2019 and 2021 and for the 111th anniversary. Today the club has 27 members and remains a compact association with strong community life on the Havel.
