Segelclub Neusiedl West

Segelclub Neusiedl West (SCNW) is a sailing club founded in 1983 at the western harbour of Lake Neusiedl in Neusiedl am See. The club has its own harbour with clubhouse, terrace, jetties and sanitary, power and water infrastructure and is run entirely by volunteers. The programme ranges from regattas such as the SCNW Cup to shared outings, club evenings and the Women Sailing initiative. Beginners, racing and cruising sailors as well as leisure sailors find a place here; trial and full membership offer an uncomplicated way into the lakeside community.

History

Segelclub Neusiedl West (SCNW) was founded in 1983 as a representation of berth tenants at the western harbour. The aim was to shape harbour development together with the municipality and improve infrastructure sustainably. In the 1970s the western harbour had already become a home port for many sailors; a historic harbour view from 1981 shows the original jetties and the former lakeside restaurant before the club was founded. What began with great commitment has shaped Segelhafen West into one of the finest harbour facilities on Lake Neusiedl. Jetties, power and water connections, parking layout and expanded sanitary facilities were accompanied, co-designed or co-financed by SCNW. To this day the club works closely with leisure operators and the municipality to develop the harbour further. Sport and social life share equal importance. Regattas such as season opening and closing races and the SCNW Cup, club evenings, outings and the harbour festival mark the club year. Since 2026 a new digital logbook is being created; reports, results, photos and stories from 1983 to 2025 are kept in the archive of the former club website. Today SCNW connects people who love Lake Neusiedl – on the water and ashore – and has around 58 members.
