Segel-Club „Nautic“ Breisach e. V.

Segel-Club „Nautic“ Breisach e. V. (SCNB) is a traditional sailing club at the natural harbour Karpfenhod on the Old Rhine near Breisach. The sailing area runs between Rhine kilometres 217 and 224.5 with no commercial shipping and no motorboats, offering quiet sailing in a near-natural setting. The club has a natural harbour with about 80 berths, land berths, a slipway, a pillar jib crane and a clubhouse. Juniors train on Optimist, Open Bic, 420er and ILCA 7; the programme also includes club regattas, team sailing and a German-French partnership with CNRC Colmar. Founded in 1971, the club still fosters community, youth development and the preservation of the club grounds in harmony with nature.

History

The idea of founding a sailing club at Karpfenhod dates back to 1970. The first sailors who regularly visited the idyllic natural harbour were advised by the authorities to form an association to put their presence on a solid legal footing. On 13 March 1971, enthusiastic sailors founded “Segelclub Nautic Freiburg”, which was entered in the register of associations. With this new base, many sailors began spending whole weekends on the Rhine; a makeshift camping caravan grew into an organised campsite with infrastructure. The FAM dinghy cruiser by Klepper was initially the club’s only sailing boat, ideal for easy slipping and spontaneous overnight stays. Members built the near-natural harbour with sheet piles on the north and south banks and wooden and steel dolphins at the pier in countless volunteer work parties. Improved berthing then allowed larger boats; a crane was installed because they could no longer simply be slipped. Today the club sails boats up to a maximum of 8 metres in length, from Optimists for the youngest to family boats and senior yachts. Generations have grown up at Karpfenhod; the club continues to preserve the grounds for sailing in harmony between people and nature. In 2026 Segel-Club „Nautic“ Breisach celebrates its 55th anniversary under the motto “50+5”.
