Segelclub Walchensee e.V.

Segelclub Walchensee e.V. (SCLW) is a sport-oriented sailing club on Lake Walchensee in the Bavarian Alpine foothills, about 75 kilometres south of Munich. The club grounds sit at the entrance to the village of Walchensee opposite the Herzogstandbahn car park and feature a club hut, berths, a crane facility and a free club fleet for members. Home classes range from Optimist, ILCA and 420 to 505 and Dyas as well as Musto Skiff and International 14; ranking regattas and championships are held regularly. Junior training weekends and Opti, Laser and Europe sessions from May to July serve youth and adults. Since its founding in 1965, informal community spirit and reliable thermal winds have shaped club life in the nature reserve.

History

Segelclub Walchensee e.V. (SCLW) was founded in 1965 and has its seat and home harbour in Walchensee. The club is a member of the German Sailing Federation, the Bavarian Sailing Federation and the Bavarian State Sports Association. From the beginning it has promoted sailing on sporty boats suited to the venue; home dinghy classes include Optimist, Laser/ILCA, 420 and 505, complemented by Dyas and Monas as well as modern classes such as International 14 and Musto Skiff. Over the decades the SCLW became a host of numerous ranking regattas and championships on wind-reliable Lake Walchensee, including International German Championships for the 505, ILCA Masters, German Opens of the International Moth and further class events. Club life centres on the club hut, berths, crane and a free club fleet for members. Today the club has nearly 200 active members from the Bavarian Oberland, the greater Munich area and also from Allgäu and the Inn valley, combining competitive sailing with camaraderie in a nature reserve.
