Segel-Club Ludwigshafen e.V.

Segel-Club Ludwigshafen e.V. (SCLu) is a traditional sailing club on the Otterstadt oxbow of the Rhine in the Palatinate Rhine floodplains and welcomes relaxed cruising as well as ambitious club racing. The venue offers a jetty, club terrace and a certified crane with a catchment tray for cleaning underwater hulls; youth boats and two 420 dinghies shape the fleet offering. Regular youth sessions with about two training dates per month, the season opening sail, and club regattas such as the spring and autumn races plus Altrhein Cup scoring serve juniors and adult sailors. Since its founding in 1969 the club has linked sailing with nature and environmental protection and is a member of the German Sailing Federation and the regional Palatinate and Rhineland-Palatinate sailing and sports associations.

History

Segel-Club Ludwigshafen e.V. looks back on more than fifty years of history: the website explicitly marks over 50 years of sailing SCLu 1969–2019. Home waters are the Otterstadt Rhine oxbow in the Palatinate floodplains, where club races, season opening and closing sails and club life on jetty and terrace take place. On 30 October 2022 an extraordinary general meeting adopted a statute amendment that was entered in the register of associations after about eight months. In the flood year 2021 Speyer gauge levels around 7.98 metres affected grounds and cellar. Sportingly the SCLu regularly hosts spring and autumn championship regattas, often with neighbouring clubs HSK and KCF, and takes part in the Altrhein Cup of the Palatinate Sailing Association and the Blue Ribbon of the Otterstadt oxbow. An SWR television report covered the Blue Ribbon 2024. In autumn 2025 the club commissioned a certified catchment tray for underwater hull cleaning at the crane and disposes of wash water properly. The youth section provides 420 dinghies and joined a sports day at Wilhelm von Humboldt Gymnasium Ludwigshafen. The club is registered as VR1072 at the Ludwigshafen am Rhein district court and belongs to Ludwigshafen Sports Association, Palatinate Sailing Association, Rhineland-Palatinate State Sailing Association, Sports Federation Palatinate, State Sports Federation Rhineland-Palatinate and the German Sailing Federation.
